BC19, Very nice Horse bit and Rein menuki.
These are in shakudo and gold and the outside circular piece is done using the Gink leafs forming the mon of the Hasebe Daimyo. The over the nose rope is in black shakudo and the rein is in the colored cloth made in gold and shakudo. The Japanese rein was never permanently attached to the bit and was not a strap. It was a wide cloth that was put through the rectangular opening at the end of the metal rod that is connected to the center bit portion that goes through the mouth. The cloth is put through the opening and rolled to form a wedge of cloth that when pulled back through the opening it will not go through the hole and is stuck there. The reason for this was that if you became wounded you could remove the cloth to use for bandage. These menuki while not signed are of the highest quality of work and show Goto traits.
