Nanban tsuba.
Chrysanthemums in raised relief with karakusa vines on the front. 2 dragonflies surrounded by flowers and karakusa vines on the back. Profuse silver inlay done in Nunome style (crosshatching inlay). Originally made to be worn on a tachi (cutting edge faced down) then reversed for a katana (cutting edge faced up) with the later addition of a hitsuana. Circa 1600.
Has NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho certificate (green papers)
